Photoluminescence and scintillation characteristics of (C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>5</sub>C<sub> n </sub>H<sub>2n </sub>NH<sub>3</sub>)<sub>2</sub>PbBr<sub>4</sub> (n = 2, 3, 4)

Abstract We prepared crystals of (C 6 H 5 C n 2 NH 3 ) PbBr 4 ( = 2, 3, 4), and evaluated their photoluminescence scintillation characteristics. According to the spectra under 340 nm excitation light, a peak at around 410 due free exciton emissions appeared in (2PEA), (3PPA) 8 (4PBA). The quantum efficiencies 2PEA, 3PPA 4PBA were 0.24, 0.01 0.04, respectively. In scintillation, sharp originating from was detected approximately 436 for 459 442 4PBA. addition, light yield 59.5 keV gamma-ray irradiation 241 Am determined be 2200 photons MeV −1 comparison with 2PEA (14 000 ), whereas could not its low intensity.

The crystal structure of the title Schiff base complex is obtained by single-crystal X-ray diffraction data.The solid state structure determination reveals that the coordination geometry around the copper(II) center istetrahedrally distorted square-planar.
